The Tidewater Chapter will hold its next meeting with a tour of the Newbold-White House in Hertford, NC.

In addition to the program, which is under development, we'll get a tour of the house and Ben Hobbs will be there to offer additional commentary.  Besides, we're planning barbecue (CAPT Bob's) for lunch!  Note that the program will have room for a discussion of your show-and-tell items as well as items planned for the coming year.  Should be a fun day.

  • Agenda:
    • Tour of the Newbold-White House and following discussion.  Ben Hobbs will be at the meeting; a great source for an in-depth discussion.
    • Turret top game table presentation - Jeremy Trichler (encore presentation of the one he gave at our annual meeting)
    • Moravian workbench - Steve Dietrich (design, construction, portability, clamping features, modifications to suit your shop)
    • Dunlap furniture - Jim Francis (who these New Hampshire builders were, their unique furniture designs, and selected carved elements)
    • Member show/tell
    • Member discussion of upcoming projects
Other notes:
  • If you'd like to do a presentation at our fall meeting, let me know soon so we can work out the details.
  • I'll be conducting a carving tool sharpening/honing workshop at the Virginia Beach Woodcraft store on August 24th (9 am to 2 pm), and the Richmond Woodcraft store on August 31st as a SAPFM outreach effort.  Come visit and bring your problem tools.  No charge.
  • Ray Journigan, who teaches at the Virginia Beach Woodcraft store, is planning a series of handtool and carving classes for woodworkers that will bring them up to the level of fine furniture maker.  If you're interested in participating in these classes, contact Ray at This email address is being protected from spambots.
