This chair was adapted from two Newport chairs made by John Goddard. With the exception of the scrolled arms, it was taken from a chair made for John Brown shown in The New Fine Points of Furniture by Albert Sack pp.66-67. The scrolled arm feature was taken from a pair of chairs made for Nicholas Brown by John Goddard, shown in Sotheby's auction catalog (January 2005)for the Goddard family.
I was unable to locate any drawings for either chair, so it was made solely from the photos and the overall dimension. The chair is made from mahogany and is finished in shellac and wax.
