This chair was reproduced from a chair in A Winterthur Guide to American Chippendale Furniture: Middle and Atlantic Colonies, page 18. The original chair had rear seat rails that concealed the chamber pot. The wood for this chair was salvaged from dead trees(Swietenia mahogani) from Key Largo, Florida. The wood is very close to San Domingo mahogany in color and density. Secondary wood is poplar. The only finish is shellac.
