Queen Anne Pewter Press

I made this Pewter Press at Gene Landon's class at Olde Mill (2003). It is based one shown in "Worldly Goods - The Arts of Early Pennsylvania - 1680-1758" from the Philadelphia Museum of Art (also shown in Horner's "Blue Book"). The door mullions were made using a Stanley 78, and hollows.

Primary materials: Mahogany
Secondary materials: White pine drawer bottoms and feet support blocks; Poplar drawer sides, drawer guides & lower case top, bottom, and back

Glass: Blown glass from old house window panes

Finish: Walnut husk stain, orange shellac, and wax.

Base: The mid and base moldings were made with borrowed antique molding planes. One was 18th century. The Ogee bracket feet molding was made using hollows and rounds.

Cornice. All 3 moldings were hand made with planes and scrapers. The tenon pegs were made with a 1/4" beading plane.
