Primary cherry and curly cherry; poplar, maple and pine secondary.
I was inspired to build this desk after seeing photos of Ron Patton?s piece on the SAPFM web site. The design is taken from Ron Patton?s article published in American Period Furniture (vol 3, 2003), and on the design described in Norm Vandal?s book Queen Anne Furniture (1990). The interior is based somewhat on Figure 248 of ?Colonial Furniture in America? (1957). The piece was made entirely by hand using hand tools and techniques. The sides, writing surface and desk lid are all solid pieces of cherry that were dressed by hand. I obtained the cherry from Irion Lumber. The finish is tung oil varnish, and I used chased brass hardware purchased from Horton Brasses.
