Made of Cherry with poplar secondary wood, inlays of Cherry cluster burl, ebony, holly, and maple. Hardware: brass, finish: oil and shellac.
A unique piece of furniture, this Sugar Desk was built in north central Kentucky between 1810 and 1840 and represents an unusual form of sugar storage furniture used on the 1800's Kentucky frontier to store a valuable commodity. The drawings for the desk were taken from photographs found on the Kentucky Online Arts Resource Blog. The original is in the collection of the Speed Museum in Lexington, KY.
