Southern Huntboard Reimagined

My original inspiration for this iteration of a Southern huntboard came from a black and white photograph in a vintage issue of Antiques Magazine. While some huntboards have a central drawer array flanked by doors, I reconfigured the piece to place the two doors centralIy. My eye found the slim Federal style tapered legs, rectilinear outline of the case and functional drawer/door configuration appealing and instantly wanted to create my version in which the wood figure took center stage. The primary wood is quartersawn mahogany which features a pleasing amount of chatoyance. The secondary wood is white pine for the drawer parts and interior rails. Each of the front rails and vertical dividers are dovetailed into their mating pieces. Legs are milled from 1 and 3/4 inch square stock. Execution of the curved lower-front apron was largely by hand, utilizing a spokeshave.
The huntboard is finished with boiled linseed oil and wax which combine to impart a warm honey tone. Hardware is lacquered/bright brass
