Hepplewhite Serving Table

Federal Period
Hepplewhite style small serving table (with shelf)
This piece was initially constructed as part of an advanced level class at Ted Harlan Woodworking School. The table’s original design (by Ted Harlan) was modified in two ways.
The leg tapers were made more steep and narrow and the top was trimmed close to the base, likening it to an example of a Hepplewhite serving table found in Wallace Nutting’s Furniture Treasury (#777).
The primary wood used is mahogany with poplar drawer boxes, runners, and drawer guides.
All parts were machine milled from 8/4 rough sawn planks, then hand planed.
The back and side rails are mortise and tenoned, top and bottom front rails dovetailed.
Hand cut half blind dovetailed drawer fronts. Hand cut through dovetail drawer backs.
Vintage brass ring pulls, finished with linseed oil.
I would like to dedicate this piece to Ted Harlan who, coincidentally, passed away on the day of its completion, November 26th, 2024.
