stropping compounds?

Just wondering what types/grits of compounds everyone has been using on their carving chisels. I've always heard never use more than one compound on a buffing wheel but I'm not sure about leather strops. I found a 1 x 42 leather belt to run on my sander to make quick work of the coarse marks but I certainly don't want to use the wrong compund on it.

    I use Happich Semichrome Polish on my leather strop.  You can buy it on line from several sources.  The last I bought came from winterbrookfarm.com.  Just smear some on the leather and let it dry in for a few minutes .
