Split Turning Mortise

I am working on a chair that has split turnings in the back; this means I need to cut mortises in the upper and lower rail for the split turnings to fit in.

I have not done motises that are actually half round and was hoping for some advise. I believe I can figure it out however was hoping for some insight that might make it go more  a bit easier.

Thank you Freddy, I have also considered changing the tenons to squares..........unsure what would have been done in the late 1600s or early 1700s.

If any one is interested I did post about the chair in the chair section. The post is noted as American Arm Chair.
