Small Bonnet Top

Doing a couple small cabinets for a big tournament golfer in Queen Anne style.  19" wide, 26" tall, under 3" deep.  For the bonnet top, I want it to go the 3 inches to the wall.  My idea is to just get some 8/4  3" or 4" wide and cutting out the entire profile out of this piece.  Pretty much exactly as one would do a serpentine drawer front.  I realize that there may be some color issues due to the endgrain showing in some of the curves.  Since it is the top of the cabinet, I figure I can live.
Does this method make sense and will it be a stable alternative to a "real" bonnet top design using thin veneer over frame?

Imagine taking a bandsawed serpentine drawer front and laying it on top of a small cabinet.  That is the scenerio I was planing to do, band saw out 3" complete bonnet top (both sides), route the profile on the edges and nail that to the top.

Hope that makes a little more sense.

This is what I was asking about.  I went ahead and did since it was such a small bonnet.
