Slant Fall lopers & lid.

Does anyone put any sort of protective chain or hinge to protect the fall front lid from ripping hinges out in the event that someone or child forgets to pull the lopers?

 
I may should rephrase; has anyone had to fix a customer desk from them dropping the lid without pulling the lopers?

I haven't had my hands on a lot of originals, but no, I would think that this would not be correct on a period piece.

And I think that this is a somewhat common repair.  That and if the top shrinks excessively from the breadboard ends, the hinges pull out ( from the breadboards pushing against the writing surface).  Cal
