I recently acquired a very primitive cupboard, it?s nothing special but, it has a few interesting details. It is built with pine board that are over 20? wide. The doors have cleats dove tailed across their with. The surface of the boards have a series of shadows that are intermittently spaced but parallel. I know from early written history of this area of Wisconsin that by 1850 there were water powered up and down mills. Here?s the question are these shadows evidence of the up and down sawing or were there water powered planers that early, that had uneven feeds.
