Hello Everyone,

At our last SAPFM Florida Chapter meeting on August 27th the group voted to change the meeting format to two meetings per year with one meeting to be a guest speaker and the other to be local presentations by chapter members.  Here is a brief schedule for our 2017 meetings.  More details will be forthcoming as we approach each meeting date.

Spring 2017 Meeting – March 25 and 26

We are delighted to announce that Ronnie Young will be our guest speaker for the Spring 2017 chapter meeting.  Ronnie is the recipient of the 2016 SAPFM Cartouche Award for lifetime achievement in period furniture.  A brief biography and link to youtube videos can be found at http://www.sapfm.org/winners.  Several of his furniture pieces can be view at the SAPFM member gallery at http://www.sapfm.org/gallery?contributor=110

Ronnie’s presentation will be a two day demonstration of the construction of a federal period cellarette that will be featured in the upcoming annual SAPFM journal.  The meeting will be held at Mike Longeran’s shop in Christmas, FL (east of Orlando).  The cost will be $50 to cover the speaker’s fee.

Thanks to Gary West for making the arrangement with Ronnie.  An agenda, times, and lunch arrangements will be forthcoming.

Fall 2017 Meeeting – September 23

Our fall meeting will be the customary format consisting of Show & Tell and several presentations by our local FL chapter members.  The location and agenda will be announced as we approach the date.

Typically we have 3 or 4 hour-long presentations at each meeting.  Presentations can be on any subject related to period furniture.  For instance, at our last meeting topics included: segmented veneering of a Demilune table (Mike), chemical coloration of wood (Gary), and vacuum bag veneering (David).

Please start thinking about topics that you would like to present at the Fall meeting.  Calls for presentations will be made early next year and at the spring meeting.  But, you are encouraged to send me an email anytime.

Regards,
Joe Kunzman
