The Fall 2012 Chesapeake SAPFM Regional Chapter meeting is open for registration.  The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 10:00AM ? 4:00PM at The Woodworkers Club, located at 4950 Wyaconda Road, Rockville, MD 20852 (301-984-9033, http://woodworkersclub.com) The Woodworkers Club anticipated move has been delayed so we will be meeting at their current location where we had our initial 2011 meeting.  Plan to arrive by 9:45AM to register and get your coffee.  Also plan to bring your own chair (or 2 or 3...save some of your friends from standing!) as only a few can be provided by the Woodworkers Club.

Pre-registration is required, so please RSVP to me at [email protected].  We will collect a fee of $25 at the door to cover meeting costs including lunch & refreshments (depending on # of RSVPs I may be able to drop that to $20 - will keep it as low as possible).

We have the honor of hosting Jeff Headley and Steve Hamilton who operate the fifth generation Mack S. Headley and Sons cabinet shop in the historic Shenandoah Valley as our featured speakers. They will be bringing a selection of their actual pieces of period furniture and use them as a basis for discussing history and construction of the various pieces, tools of the trade employed in their shop  along with period construction and finishing techniques.  Jeff Headley and Steve Hamilton continue the fine tradition of many generations, over eighty years, of the Headley family business of Antiques, Restorations, and Reproductions of 17th and 18th Century furniture.  In addition, they also operate the Woodworking Workshops of the Shenandoah Valley out of the same shop conducting week-long and week-end classes on fine furniture construction techniques, while using a mix of modern machines and time-proven hand tools. You can find further details on their websites at http://www.headleyandsons.com/ and at http://www.wwotsv.com/.

In addition, we will have announcements of some great upcoming 2013 course offerings on woodcarving with Mary May and historical finishing with Don Williams developed specifically for our Chesapeake SAPFM membership.  In both cases, enrollments will be limited as we expect demand to be high so you are encouraged to sign up as soon as registrations open up for each of them, which will occur shortly after our meeting (we'll post the announcement on this forum too for those who can't attend this fall meeting).

We will get things started sharply at 10:00AM, so be sure to arrive by 9:45am, register and get your coffee and be ready to go by 10:00am.

Besides a short business meeting including election of 2013 officers, the agenda will include time for socializing, as well as short topic discussions still under consideration along with lunch and refreshments.  We will also have our regular member Show & Tell, and the Tool Exchange, so bring any completed or work-in-process projects, tools or jigs that would be of interest to your fellow and lady woodworkers or unused woodworking items that you would like to sell.  Show & Tell will only work if members are willing to show off their work, so please consider bringing something to share with the rest of the group.

Since this meeting will conclude our second year of operation, it is time to elect officers for the next two year period.  So if you have a candidate that you would like to nominate for a position or you would like to be considered for one of the officer positions, please let Bert Bleckwenn ([email protected]) know via email so we have a slate of officer candidates to be put in front of the membership and voted on at the November meeting. The new officers will take effect on January 1st, 2013.  The officer positions and their responsibilities are:
? President: Responsible for setting the overall direction and agenda, based on interests of the chapter membership.  Holds primary responsibility for coordinating chapter activities with the national organization, promoting the chapter and maintaining oversight over chapter activities.
? Coordinator: Holds primary responsibility for planning and executing chapter activities (e.g., organizing chapter meetings, arranging for presenters, planning for venues, etc).
? Secretary/Treasurer: Responsible for composing meeting summaries, photographing chapter activities, and posting summaries on the SAPFM forum.  Responsible for collection and disbursement of funds associated with chapter meetings and member communications.

Regards,
Mark Maleski, on behalf of
The Chesapeake Chapter SAPFM Team.
