Queen Anne Eagle-Arm and Painted Chairs - appraisal source?

An associate provided the attached photos of Queen Anne style chairs with painted decorations.  They belong to a set of two eagle-arm arm chairs and six side chairs.  He indicates they have been in his family for a long time and wonders if they might belong in a museum.  He desires to know if they may be valuable period chairs ( I don't recall ever seeing reference to painting decoration on period QA chairs) and to locate a good appraisal source in the Washington DC area.

I would appreciate comments on likelyhood that they are valuable chairs, and sources of appraisal.  Also, might Winterthur provide an appraisal service?

Thanks for your help.

I suggest you try Sumpter Priddy, in Alexandria. I have never asked him about appraisals but he knows his stuff. If he doesnt do appraisals, he can point you in the right direction.

These do not appear  to to be period chairs. Maybe bicentennial if you are lucky. Look for light through any joint. Do you see a shoulder top and bottom and light between which means dowels not mortise and tenon construction. What type of glue blocks and screws do you see? Crackle finish only means varnish applied within the last 100 years. With all this said they might be excellent representation of their time.
