oxbow chest drawer fronts

I'm getting started on my oxbow bureau, and I want to solicit input from those who've seen originals.  Is it usual to have the backside of the drawer fronts follow the curve, or would they be straight.

Thanks

JD

All of the oxbow drawer backs I have seen follow the same contour front and back, that goes with most serpentine drawers through out most periods. I don't know of any period drawers with straight backs but I would bet they're out there. I would sell them by the pound.

What about a top rail under the top board.  You can't tell from the picture whether this piece has one or not.  Do they traditionally have them?  I noticed that there's no bottom rail.  The bottom draw goes right on top of the base mould.

Thanks

OK, I've got my drawer fronts shaped out and I'm wondering which method I should use to attach the drawer bottom to the front: groove or rabbet?  What's the easiest way to make either of those?

Thanks
