I just took a class at Olde Mill, and Bess asked if I would post this update to a class offering on the SAPFM forum.
From Bess:
With Master Gene Landon leading the charge, build a Charleston High Poster Bed with Tester, Part I. We have changed the bed we are going to build to an outstanding Charleston bedstead. It will be very similar to a bed pictured in the Downs book, though new research it a southern bed. The turned, fluted foot posts connect to cabriole legs that terminate in a substantial ball and claw foot. There is acanthus carving on the knees. The headboard will have profile and the head posts are tapered. A tester (rhymes with feaster) is the framework atop the posts that supports a fabric or crocheted cover. Please note that there are two parts to this project, completed in 2008. The first part is July 12-14.
