Here's an upcoming exhibit in Newport RI for anyone interested in a close up look at some original RI furniture

“A Writer’s Dozen: Desks from the Collections of The Newport Historical Society” opens Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Seventh Day Baptist Meeting House, 82 Touro St., Newport, and continues through December. The exhibit highlights desks made in Newport by Newport craftsmen and includes two examples from Providence. All desks were used by Newporters and in some cases, generations of Newport families. Many of the traditional Newport desk forms are included as well as some less common arrangements. The exhibit includes the desk at which William Ellery, a signer of the Declaration Independence, worked and wrote. Hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Suggested donation is $5 per person. (401) 841-8770; http://www.newporthistory.org/
