It might Pam, but the cherry will continue to darken over the years. Plus, the contrast is only that strong when the piece faces the 600W photography lights in my studio. In person, the star stands out but not glaringly so.
Some oxblood-colored inlay would be really cool on a period interpretation piece, though. I have some thinner pieces of rosewood that would make some beautiful inlay... might have to noodle with that.
