Neat little hanging bookcase

Looks a lot more refined than the example you had to work from, very nice - except for one little thing: the compass rose is colored so that it almost escapes the shelves to declare itself, too much contrast (to my eyes, of course) with the wood in the main body. Perhaps if the blace were a dark brown or an oxblood that would coordinate better?

Pam

It might Pam, but the cherry will continue to darken over the years. Plus, the contrast is only that strong when the piece faces the 600W photography lights in my studio. In person, the star stands out but not glaringly so.

Some oxblood-colored inlay would be really cool on a period interpretation piece, though. I have some thinner pieces of rosewood that would make some beautiful inlay... might have to noodle with that.

Sure, all those things. Still looks real nice. Would love to see the rosewood version if you decide to try it.

Sure thing Pam. I'm plugging away on a Hepplewhite huntboard for my wife right now, but I will get back around to to this idea at some point this year.
