Inspired by Downton Abbey

With the popularity of the PBS series Downton Abbey(about to begin its 4th season), I am curious to know if any of you professional cabinet makers have experienced an upturn in business from customers inspired by the furnishings seen in the show.  Even though they are not all originals and not all original to Highclere Castle, there are some really nice pieces every where you look.

Wow, 91 reads and 0 replies.  I take that as a, "No."

I'm surprised.  Mrs Crawley's house is actually my favorite.  There are several QA & W&M dressing tables and a lovely W&M high chest that looks like it has some age to it.

Take a look at the summaries for the other messages. You'll see the "reply/Views" ratio is always very low.

According to my wife, women's clothing fashion is being affected by the program - at least to some degree.  No doubt those inspired by the furnishings are turning to the mass-produced market.  Pity.

The pieces on that show are amazing. The Crawley House (not the big house) has an outstanding W&M escretoire desk in the one room they always show, and the main foyer of the Abbey itself has an absolutely stunning Dutch high chest with tortoise shell veneer and silver mounts.  I watch the show for the furniture, the architecture, and the cars! Nothing like the family 1920 Renault... :)

Kent: Bigger than Downton?

"It's been a good start to 2014 for William Kent. Not only did the New York Times publish a very favorable review of the exhibition at the Bard Graduate Center, the author also mentioned our 'Signor' and his architectural achievements in the same breath as everyone's other favorite country house: Downton Abbey."
