Well, with the new year, another holiday season has come and gone. I hope the season brought you and yours many blessings. Time to take down the tree, say goodbye to the in-laws and rewrap the fruitcake for regifting next year.
While you were celebrating and I was resting on my laurels and basking the satisfaction of a successful Gateway Chapter Fall meeting (hey, you gotta be proud of something so I take what I can get), chapter member Cal Hobbs was hard at work making plans for the Gateway Regional Chapter Spring meeting in Kansas City. If the itinerary is any indication, the second meeting will be better than the first.
The group will meet in the morning at the Kansas City Plaza Library at 10 am for the usual meet and greet, show and tell, etc. followed by a presentation on periods, commas, question marks and the oft misunderstood semicolon...oh wait, that's the SAPEM (Society of American Period English Majors) meeting next door--it is at a library after all. Cal will be talking about the William & Mary, Queen Anne, Chippendale and Federal periods. Cal really knows his stuff and has an impressive library of his own to draw from so come equipped with questions and comments.
He's also working on having somekind of hands-on technique demonstration. More on that to come. After lunch the meeting will move to the Nelson/Atkins Gallery of Art for a guided tour of the American Collection and Conservation Department. Cal is pretty familiar with museum's period furniture collection and promises it won't disappoint.
Although Cal is capable and confident (a little alliteration for you other SAPEM members), I'm sure he'd appreciate your input and assistance so don't hesitate to drop him a line ([email protected]) or make a post here on the forum.
For those of you from St. Louis and points east and are interested in discussing carpooling, feel free to post in this forum or contact me directly ([email protected]) and I'll do my best to help connect you to other members.
