She may have a little bit to say about analysis of furniture at Winterthur - I will ask her to include something about this in her talk. Scientific analysis is used to address artworks’ authenticity, construction, state of preservation, and mechanisms of degradation. Given the irreplaceable nature of art, this research must be conducted either non-invasively or with microsamples. Dr. Jennifer Mass, Senior Scientist and Laboratory Director, Scientific Research and Analysis Laboratory, Winterthur Museum and Art Conservation Department, University of Delaware shares studies involving masterpieces by Matisse, N.C. Wyeth, Teniers, and Brueghel.
