A little off topic but for anyone interested see the announcement below for an upcoming lecture by Dr. Jennifer Mass - Senior Scientist and Laboratory Director, Scientific Research and Analysis Laboratory, Winterthur Museum and Art Conservation Department, University of Delaware - in November at the RISD museum in Providence.  She may have a little bit to say about analysis of furniture at Winterthur - I will ask her to include something about this in her talk.  Is also an opportunity to visit the RISD museum http://risdmuseum.org/visit/directions_parking .

Below is the announcement that the RISD museum is sending out.

X-Ray Vision
NOV 14 | Thu 6:30-8 pm
Metcalf Auditorium, Chace Center entrance, 20 North Main Street

Scientific analysis is used to address artworks’ authenticity, construction, state of preservation, and mechanisms of degradation. Given the irreplaceable nature of art, this research must be conducted either non-invasively or with microsamples.  Dr. Jennifer Mass, Senior Scientist and Laboratory Director, Scientific Research and Analysis Laboratory, Winterthur Museum and Art Conservation Department, University of Delaware shares studies involving masterpieces by Matisse, N.C. Wyeth, Teniers, and Brueghel.
Co-sponsored with the Rhode Island chapter of the American Chemical Society.
Free.
