2002 Cartouche Recipient Robert Whitley has graciously opened his shop and studio to our chapter, this is a wonderful opportunity to visit a true master of his craft and hear his story.

Our schedule for that day is as follows:
8:30 am to 9:00 am- Check in. There will be a charge of $10 per person. There will be coffee and donuts for the morning.
9:00 am to 10:30 am- Craig Bentzey – Measuring and Drawing Antique Furniture, Specialized Tips, Tricks and Techniques
Learn the basics of working from photographs and how to avoid common pitfalls. We will discuss how to use slide projectors, opaque projectors, copy machines, scanners, computer programs, film cameras, and digital cameras to your greatest advantage. We will cover how to measure a real piece of furniture in both a museum environment and in your own shop. Learn about useful tools, both commercial and shop-made, and simple tricks that will make measuring, patterning and drawing easier.
10:30 am to 10:45 am- Break
10:45 am to 12:15 pm- Marc Gaertner – The 123s of Veneering, Marc will discuss and demonstrate various methods of applying veneer to substrates, stringing, banding and other surface decoration.
12:15: pm to 1 pm- Lunch will be sandwiches soda, and water included
1: pm to 4: pm- Bob Whitley- Will treat us a slide presentation and explanation of his various projects, such as the Kennedy project and many others such as the chess board and case for President Nixon to present the Soviet Union as a gift from the United States, afterword he will give a tour of his studio/ home to view various real antiques and reproductions he has made over his career. Also, he will show many of the samples of work such as carvings, patterns and many other items of interest.
This meeting has shaped up to be one to remember, Bob is a wonderful host and is full of information and antidotes, plan on having a very eventful day.
Note: Bob would like to liquidate his collection of beautiful veneer which represents a large inventory he has accumulated over the years also, various live edge walnut boards of excellent quality
