Del Val Chapter SAPFM Meeting (New Date)
SAPFM Members;
Our spring meeting has been rescheduled for June 2nd 2012 in Alpha, NJ at the same location.
We decided to expand the program to include another speaker and start ? hour earlier. We are sorry for any inconvenience our cancelling the last meeting may have caused anyone we hope all who registered before can re-register for this meeting and those who were unable to make the last meeting we hope can make this one . As before this meeting is free.
The meeting will be hosted by Tyler Emerick at his business warehouse at Huntington Oil Co., 625 Hawk Ave., Alpha, NJ 08865 where he has his workshop.
Directions - Tyler suggests using the company name in a map search or GPS rather than the address to get to the correct location. See map link below for detail directions.
We invite all attendees to bring any piece, chair, table, box, chest or whatever you?d like to display for show & tell, we will set aside time for each to discuss your piece. Or if you working on developing plans for a particular piece and want to discuss.
The new agenda for the meeting;
9:00 to 9:30 AM- Coffee, Donuts
9:30 AM to 10:30 AM - Tyler Emerick: Sawing logs on a Wood Mizer and discussing various woods and their methods of cutting.
10:30 AM to 12 Noon ? William Duffield: Shaping Cabriolet Legs with Rasps, Files and Scrapers, and Work Holding Strategies. William is a retired telecommunications engineer, has worked for 5 years in a custom furniture shop mostly building and restoring period furniture. He builds mostly Queen Anne and Chippendale styles and also in interested in Federal period furniture. William has taught woodworking skills in hand tools, power tools, tool sharpening and turning while employed for 7 years at Woodcraft. William has written articles in the past that can be found on WoodCentral.
12 Noon to 12:15 PM ? Rich Nimetz: Will discuss our proposed group project of building a spice box, plans & drawings, materials and schedule of meetings throughout the process, we will distribute articles that include plans of spice boxes
12:15 to 1:00 PM - Lunch (we will provide either pizza or sandwiches and beverages, as we have done in the past we?ll ask all to contribute a few dollars to cover the cost)
We will also use the lunch time for the show and tell
1:00 PM to 2:30 PM - Bob Rozaieski: Bob will be demonstrating the traditional hand tool methods used for constructing molded raised panel doors. Bob has been an amateur woodworker for over 20 years. His interest in American period furniture began about 10 years ago after a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. Bob became very interested in using traditional hand tools and techniques to build his furniture. For the last 10 years, Bob has been studying American period furniture and the methods used by early craftsmen to build it. Today, he only uses traditional hand tools and construction methods to build his furniture and works out of a small shop attached to his home in Swedesboro, NJ. Bob has written articles for Popular Woodworking Magazine, demonstrated traditional hand tool methods for the Central Jersey Woodworkers Association, and he'll also be volunteering as an historic craft interpreter at the Pennsbury Manor and Moland House museums. For the May meeting of the Delaware Valley Chapter of SAPFM, Bob will be demonstrating the traditional hand tool methods used for constructing molded raised panel doors.
2:30 PM to 2:40 PM - Break
2:40 PM to 4:10 PM - Frank Vucolo: Frank will demonstrate Federal Period inlay, banding and stringing techniques. Frank has been an avid woodworker for over 25 years. After working as an amateur and part-time professional woodworker for many years, Frank had to lay down his tools for a while when he founded a (non-woodworking related) business in 1996. He started finding time to get back in the shop in 2002 and in 2006 developed a strong interest in American period furniture. He has been designing and building furniture in the Federal style ever since. The presentation will cover methods to create, prepare and inlay banding, stringing and a sand shaded pictorial inlay (paterea) using either traditional hand tools or a small router and Dremel. Frank currently serves as President of the Central Jersey Woodworkers Association.
