I have seen many tea caddies that had the top molding on the lid cut from the solid and also many with veneer tops. The one I copied was from the MESDA collection #-4405 It was from North Carolina 1780-1810 made from Walnut and it had the molding cut from the solid. If it would help to see some pictures of the original and the copied contact me off the forum at [email protected].
Lonnie Bird describes building a small tea caddy in his Bandsaw Book. I'm not sure where Lonnie found the inspiration but it will give you a different perspective.
