2027 Cartouche Award — Nominations Open

2027 Cartouche Award — Nominations Open

The Society of American Period Furniture Makers’ Cartouche Award acknowledges the contributions made by craftsmen, educators, conservators, and supporters, professional or hobbyist, who have inspired or instructed others, and who have contributed to the world through their work. Each year, the Cartouche Award is presented to an individual whose achievements best reflect the mission of SAPFM. Any maker or individual who has had a significant impact on the craft and the techniques used is eligible; a SAPFM membership is not required. The only requirement is that they have a lifetime of achievement and “have simply made the world more pleasing as a result of their skillful labors.”

Candidates for this year’s award may be nominated until August 31, 2026, for the 2027 award. They may be self-nominated or nominated by someone else (with the nominee’s permission). Nominations should include a letter of submission, biography of the nominee, declaration of originality of their work, and high quality photographs of at least 20 pieces they have made. Application materials must be stored on a thumb drive and be submitted by mail or other delivery service. After discussion by the judges on the Cartouche Advisory Committee, a secret ballot is used to vote and the recipient of the award will be notified by the SAPFM president and be announced to the public in January 2027.

The recipient of the award is honored at the Cartouche Award banquet, held in conjunction with the SAPFM Annual Conference. Two articles, one by the recipient on a topic of their choice and a biography of the recipient and images of their work will be published in the 2027 edition of American Period Furniture. The recipient will need to work with the editor and submit all relevant materials for publication by July 1, 2027.
