Finishing inlay

How do you finish walnut with maple inlay? I like walnut that has a brown color which I get by staining with orange dye but I’m afraid it will ruin the maple. I am afraid I might have to settle with unstained walnut.

Dave,

I'm not sure if this is the correct way but I did this once. With a small brush apply a coat of white/blonde shellac to the inlay. Then apply your stain and top coats. I suggest you try this on a sample first.
