Alan Chase - April 8, 2009

Long time SAPFM member Alan Chase died early April 8, 2008 after a short illness.

Alan was born in Harvey, IL, April 4, 1943, the son of the late Deane and Ruth McManis Chase. He was a graduate of Bay View High School, Milwaukee, WI and received a degree in mechanical engineering from Marquette University. He retired from Giddings and Lewis Manufacturing Co., in Fond du Lac in Wisconsin in 2004 and moved to the Cross Hill, SC area.

Alan and Janet greatly enjoyed traveling to historic sites throughout the world. He spent many hours in his workshop making reproduction Federal furniture and gifts for his family.

He was a member of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers, the Greenville Woodworkers Guild, and CLAW in Greenwood, SC. He was a past chairman of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Great Lakes Coalition and chairman of the International Great Lakes Coalition.

Alan was an enthusiastic woodworker and ardent SAPFM supporter.  He had a post on the website as recently as March 28, 2009 planning his next project.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 11 in Greenwood, SC. Our sympathies go to his wife Janet, who accompanied Alan to SAPFM meetings.
