WTB: Crotch Birch Veneer

If you find some let me know I have been looking for awhile. In fact I have been looking at the birch in my yard a little closer...

I keep my eyes open for Birch crotches. I sawed up a crotch a while back but it had some discoloration, otherwise it was o.k. Good luck.

Jim,

I searched for birch crotch veneer several years ago and couldn't find any. Someone suggested that I try avodire (African satinwood). It is similar in color but most of the avodire flame that I've seen is not as intense as birch. I finally did find what I was looking for--a flitch of tightly-figured avodire crotch--on eBay. Ask your veneer supplier for a reasonable substitute.

Regarding birch veneers that were used in Federal-period furniture; was it yellow birch, white or black birch, etc.?
