Have we ever decided upon an emblem for our SAPFM chapter which might include other regional chapters also? Could or should it incompass a period tool or a piece of furniture design?

Seems like a good idea...Although lets not forget Maryland!  lol...

Is there a piece of furniture that is distinctly fromthis area?  Suppose we could use the Capital or some such landmark too.  Or how about the Captital in Williamsburg?

I'm just the new guy, but though I'd offer a couple suggestions about potential elements for the chapter emblem.  Before I make my suggestions, I should mention that I prefer Jeff's idea about a period tool or furniture design but haven't come up with any specific suggestions in those areas.  Here are my ideas:
- Virginia's state tree & flower is the dogwood.  While this isn't directly relevant to period furniture, it does seem a fairly distinctive element for our region.  Would everyone be comfortable with a flower in the emblem (I would)?  Would our Maryland and West Virginia members be happy with choosing something specific to Virginia?
- At our recent spring meeting, we saw a Frye-Martin (can't recall if they nailed attribution) chest on frame that had applied, carved tobacco leaves.  This could also be a good distinctive element for our region.  Perhaps a little more inclusive for our MD/WV members.

I agree we need a more inclusive name for the Virginia group. this would  Stimulate much more diversity and likely widen the subject matter. What would be inclusive of Maryland, North Carolina, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia. Something like the  East Central SAPFM chapter. A cabinetmakers chest with tools around it could be the emblem for our group. That would be my suggestion.......  Joe Lambert

An Emblem or patch is a good Idea for the chapters.  What about having one item, tool or whatever  to represent the group (SAPFM)  country wide as a whole and have the State emblem as the background. That way each state could have there own patches with a unified theme..

MIKE:

SAPFM has a organizational emblem and that is the shell. Bob Mustain had approached us meaning the Virginia group and discussed the idea of a regional name that would allow several states or a wider participation rather than identifying the State. We discussed it several meetings ago but it went no further. I suggest perhaps I could collect these ideas and maybe we can vote at the fall meeting in October. As the chapter coordinator I'd rather the group vote as a whole to come up with a regional name and emblem. If we decide on an emblem for our group then I could explore the cost of such an undertaking, for our shirts........    Joe Lambert

My Dear Sirs,
What say ye is this "West Virginia" about which you speaketh? Dost thou speaketh of the Western part of the colony along the Ohio River, or the middlest part of the colony where Fort Lee (at Charleston) is established? I propose that the emblem is the border of the colony as shown on this map and all of these Western Virginians would naturally be included.

(Just kidding. A colonial theme seems most appropriate. Carvings with Tobacco sheaves seems appropriate and complements the newport shell.)

How about the SAPFM shell with an emblem in one of the lobes of the shell for each chapter. VA says "first call" on the center lobe? What would be the symbol for the center lobe.
