Tiger Maple

While at a show last weekend a customer told me that the EPA is considering a ban on tiger maple wood. They are considering it to be an "endangered species"! Has anyone else heard of this or is it just nonsense.

Dennis, Not an expert but, since the genus of maple that shows figure, striped, tiger, birdseye, etc. are NOT a separate species, it would be hard to consider them "endangered". Maple trees, both hard and soft varieties are not by any means endangered at this time. Put this down as nonsense.

Dennis,

When I was a child, we played a game at birthday parties where someone whispered a phrase to the next person on a circle and it was passed around and at the end of the circle the result was compared to the original with predictible results - they were never even close.

With the full understanding of the futility of trying to explain a vague and apparently bizarre statement out of context , I can relate that some time back the EPA did announce that the increasing presence of acid rain in the Pacific Northwest was endangering sugar maple trees to the point that they considered extinction to be a real risk. The issue as I recall was certain chemicals that were present only in the sugar maple trees structure that degenerated in the presence of acid in the water.

Perhaps this explains the quote ?
