THE LONE STAR CHAPTER AT THE HOUSTON WOODWORKING SHOW

The Lone Star Chapter participated in The Woodworking Show in Houston, Texas on April 4-5-6 as a way to showcase member's furniture, perform demonstrations of our skills, tell people about SAPFM and attract new members.  I am happy to report that we were successful on all counts.  We had two booths to display our furniture and another booth directly across the aisle for demonstrations.  Our demonstrations were advertised in the official program of The Woodworking Shows and on a large sign pillar as show attendees entered the show.  There was alot of interest in our booth!

Our demonstrations included sand shading and making a Federal style inlaid fan, making windsor chairs, layout and hand cutting dovetail joints, hand planing a rule joint for a drop leaf table with a pair of matched English planes, layout and carving a ball and Claw foot, construction of an 18th century Dunlap tea table, preparing ruff stock for use using a hand plane and shaping a Queen Anne cabriole leg.  We also included some audience participation in some of the demonstrations.

Lone Star members turned out in force to perform demos, tell visitors about SAPFM, pass out brochures, talk about their furniture and lend their support to our efforts.  The credit for the success of our show belongs to all those members who worked so hard to make it happen!  My sincere thanks to all of you!! For our efforts, we picked up 6 new SAPFM members that I know of and a few weeks time will tell how many more.  The event was great fun for all of those who participated!
