Taunton chests

I am interested in finding out as much as I can about the Taunton Chests made by Robert Crosman (1707-1799) during the years c. 1725-1742: family history, examples (location), construction used, paints used, and their decorative painting.

This is probably my favorite article on Taunton chests. I found it helpful when I tried making one a couple of years ago.

Fred,

I did a google search on these chests and now have another piece to put on my furniture bucket list (sigh).  I was reminded that a couple of these chests are included in the Harbor & Home book (author listed as Brock Jobe, but IIRC it's a PEM exhibition book).  The relevant pages are available via Google Books if you don't have the book.  Some dimensions are provided, as well as provenance info.  Hope that helps at least a little.

It has always amazed me the amount of unique furniture that winds up in some prominent museum's cellar, some never seen again. This is a nice chest with a story to tell.
