  • Good morning everyone,

This is just a reminder about this Saturday's tour and Chapter meeting. The agenda is below, and following are a few notes:
    • About 22 people have signed up for the tour and meeting, so the charge will be $25; cash or check, payable when you get to the library. This fee will take care of the snacks/drinks, library room fee, and travel costs/honoraria for Steve and Ray.
    • Pay for the tour ($12) at the Plantation gift shop. This is a discount from the normal tour rate.
    • Remember that you're on your own for lunch.
    • Feel free to bring any item you'd like to show/tell to the meeting. In addition, we'll make time to cover any design/construction/technique issues you may have on your projects with Ray and Steve. They're great resources.
    • Be prepared to share ideas for our fall meeting (i.e. date, location, theme, topics to cover).
That's all for now. Thanks for your time and support. For questions or issues, feel free to contact me,
    Jim Francis

    Agenda
    Berkeley Plantation Tour:
    • 8:15-9:00 AM: Assemble at the Plantation parking lot. See Note (1) below for directions, and Note (2) for tour payment. I'll bring drinks and snacks, in case you missed breakfast.
    • 9:00-9:30: Introductory film
    • 9:30-10:15: Guided house tour. Note that the tour guide has been authorized to open select pieces, so be sure to ask.
    • 10:15-10:45: Self-guided museum, gardens/grounds, and exhibits following house tour.
    Travel:
    • 10:45-11:30: Proceed to James City County Library Kitzinger Room (7770 Croaker Road, Williamsburg). The trip is approximately 33 miles/45 minutes. I apologize for the need to travel; the cost of a meeting room closer to the Plantation drove the decision.
    Lunch:
    • 11:30-12:15. Lunch on your own. See Note (3) for a short list of restaurants fairly close to the library.
    Meeting:
    12:15 to 5 PM
    • Welcome, introductions, Mid-Year Conference (Collegeville, PA - June 28 to July 1st) notes.
    • Steve Dietrich - German folk art painting on furniture in Germany and America.
    • Ray Journigan (2018 Cartouche recipient) - Newport Corner chair (history, design, construction, carving). This presentation will also include his apprentice/journeymen builders of this chair sharing their issues/lessons learned.
    • Show/Tell
    • Closing; meeting comments, thoughts on fall Chapter meeting.
