The autumn meeting of the Southern New England chapter will feature a full day of special tours in Wethersfield and Windsor, CT. We will begin at 10:30 am, Friday, October 23 in the historic town of Wethersfield, CT with a two hour guided tour of the Webb, Dean, Stevens (WDS) houses. http://webb-deane-stevens.org/

These are outstanding federal period homes with exceptional furniture collections. The tour will be conducted by the WDS Executive Director Charles Lyle and the recent Head of Collections at The Connecticut Historical Society, Rich Malley. Rich has been a good friend to SAPFM and was instrumental in executing the 2012 CHS/SAPFM joint exhibition “A Tradition of Craft”. Plan on up close examinations of numerous furniture pieces while learning about the unique role that the town of Wethersfield played in the late 18th century.

We will then journey up to the town of Windsor, CT for lunch at Nat Hayden’s BBQ before meeting up with Windsor Historical Society’s Curator of Collections and Interpretation, Christina Vida. Christina will lead the group on a tour of the recently completed renovation of the Strong Howard House and the furniture collaboration between the Society and the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking.

Attendance is limited to 15 people. Reply to this email to chapter leader Doug Smith [email protected] if you can come. The cost will be $20.00 per person (lunch is extra) and should be paid in cash the day of the event.
