Southern Backcountry Finishing Workshop

The Southern Backcountry Chapter will be sponsoring a color theory/finishing workshop designed to add clarity to the world of finishes and color theory. The 2 day workshop will be at MESDA, which is in Winston-Salem, NC Feb 8th and 9th. The workshop will be lead by Furniture Make and conservator Martin O'Brien.

Day 1: Color/Finishing Lecture and Demonstration:  February 8th
- explore the world of color theory and finishes through lecture and demonstratinos
- presentation of finishing recipes on woods such walnut, poplar, pine and mahogany will be explored. 
- tour the MESDA collection to see how these techniques were used on various pieces of furniture that Martin has conserved.
Registration $75 includes: 2 day admission to Old Salem, and box lunch

Day 2: Hands-on color/finish workshop:  February 9th
- participants experimenting with stains and finishes to expand their comfort zone.
- focus on staining and finishing hard to handle species and situations.
Registration $170 includes: lunch and finishing materials. Participants will be responsible for bringing 6 samples of their most challenging woods to finish (ideal size 6"x10" x1/2”). Space is limited.
