FS:  An extraordinary set of 8 graduated cabinetmaker's side beads by Mathieson of Glasgow.  The set includes sizes 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, and 1 inch.  What makes these planes special is their pristine condition and that they're cabinetmaker's planes, not joiner's planes - the irons are all pitched at 55 degrees and intended for work in hardwoods.

Those of you that work wood with molding planes will know that a bead is one of the hardest profiles to deal with tear-out - any sanding makes keeping the profile uniform and round extremely difficult.  This is why cabinet-maker's planes are pitched at 55-60 degrees, while joiner's tools, intended for work in softwoods and where tear-out is inconsequential because the molding will be painted, are pitched at 45 degrees.

Regarding condition, these planes are nearly unused - all of the profiles are crisp, the mouths have not been opened, and there is very little sign of wear at all except for a few very shallow hammer strike marks on the rear of the planes.  The irons are in similarly good condition with little to no rust, and they are quite sharp.   There are no owner's stamps - these planes were found in the US, where owner's stamps were less common.

Asking price is $325 plus shipping.  Note that because of the box size, shipping by parcel post may run as much as $25 if you're on the West coast.  Payment by Paypal, money order, or personal check (must clear before shipment).

Note - Because of the forum's limit on photographs, I've posted the end-view and the maker's mark.  If you'd like, I'll be happy to forward other photos.
