CONSERVING THE PAST
The Lone Star Chapter of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers will meet on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the Conservation Labs of The Museum of Fine Arts - Houston located at 800 Rosine Street, Houston, Texas 77019. Steven Pine, Decorative Arts Conservator - The Bayou Bend Collection, will be our host. Steven will guide us on a tour of the labs, define conservation and his philosophy of conservation, and describe the techniques used in conservation. We will be discussing the techniques used in making furniture with hand tools and how the colonial cabinetmakers did work efficiently. Period surface coatings and glues will also be a topic of conversation. Steven plans to pull out four or five pieces of period furniture from the warehouse and discuss the construction details and significance of each item. Bring your questions! This is a great opportunity to get the details of the Bayou Bend Collection and other furniture from the experts.
As usual, bring a sack lunch. Drinks will be provided. You do not need to bring a folding chair this time. I hope you can make it to this most informative meeting! All current SAPFM members are welcome!
See you September 13th
