New England Chapter has completed a successful 2023 year by presenting two skill programs. In May, a carving instruction was held in New Hampshire with Al Breed and Dan Faia, both SAPFM Cartouche award recipients. Following in November was an instruction session located in Southern Conn. with Matt Bickford. Matt is the author of “Moldings In Practice” and he demonstrated the use of wood planes to shape moldings. Matt’s instructions to make moldings seems so easy.

The 2024 year has an April scheduled presentation with Freddy Roman. Freddy has years of experience with furniture working veneers and applying banding and inlay décor. These skills are related with Hepplewhite period furniture. The event will be held in Ayer, Mass. located along the I-495 beltway near the northern border of Mass. There is space for 40 participants. As with previous events, a “blast” E-mail will be sent to members about one month before scheduled to include event details and directions. Registration and a $10 fee will be requested.

The intent is to schedule more events thru the 2024 year. Perhaps a summer meeting and the usual fall, possibly October, presentation will be scheduled. The April gathering should determine future event topic and where they will be held. These events are designed to bring crafting skill information to the membership. Education for period furniture making is a mission within SAPFM.
