The Nov. 13th presentation featuring skills in “the unplugged shop” that demonstrate a project to construct a framed paneled cabinet door. The components involve mortise and tenon framed corner joints, stiles and tails with a “thumb nail” mold to receive a raised panel inserted into a grove.
The crafting of this framed door will demonstrate a variety of hand tools not only to cut mortise and tenons but also a couple of methods to plane a thumb nail bead, plow a grove and cope cut to fit the corners of the mold. The shaping of raised edges on the panel is accomplished with a variety of hand planes. This project reflects similar skills that can be applied to crafting wainscot wall panels and 4 or 6 panel historic doors.
