Thanks Freddy, this looks like a great meeting, and I'll sure plan on being there.

Getting to Al's shop is a little confusing, as it is right on the Maine-New Hampshire border. You'll likely cross the state line a few times getting there.

For those addicted to GPS, like I am, the address to use is:

1 Front Street
Rollinsford, NH 03869

That's what gets me right to his front door, on Garmin at least.

Rob,

Sir Allan Breed is an amazing period furniture maker with a focus on Newport Furniture.  Please visit his sit allanbreed.com and there you will see what Allan has to offer.  The meeting will entail what ever Allan wants to demo.  Some carving maybe, some period details, some tips and tricks, some methods of the madness of producing furniture to match originals.  It will an amazing meeting for this is a great craftsmen opening his shop and world to us.

Fred

Fred,
I've taken a class with Al and have been pestering him through email for a long time now regarding a Newport highboy I am building.  I know the drive will be well worth it, just wondering if there was some sort of focus or topic--Al?
Rob

Rob,

Well all I can say is that I been trying to get Sir Breed for about a year and he was just so busy (Which great to hear he is doing great).  So I gave it one more try and he went for it.  I try not to request anything specific to demo, I simply let the Shop Master decide.  I can say he said that he is working on some great stuff and has a lot to show.  This could be a great time ask your questions.  I try not to take advantage for these craftsmen are opening thier shops, turning the heat/ac on, and willing to sacrfice their time.

There is a lot of new woodworkers in the group and they simply just want to learn more so I am trying to set meetings that informative and worth the trip of 1 plus hours.  I hate trips/meetings that a individual travels 1 hr plus for one hour of demo.  I will email Allan for more details.

Fred

Fred,
Thanks for putting in the effort.  I heard that there is going to be a meeting in Feb. at the CT Valley School of Woodworking--I will definitely be at that one (its only about 30 mins from my house).
Rob

Rob,

There is a meeting in FEB @ CVSW and I am waiting to get more detail.  I been trying to find out so I can spread the word to many.

I have also set up a meeting with my friend Paul Leito in April who is a Sawyer and
Wood ID specialist.  This should be great for we will have a BBQ and go into the woods and ID trees, saw some lumber, and he has lumber for sale.  It should be awesome.

I also have Matt Wajda and amazing furniture maker interested in holding a meeting at his place and maybe going over chair construction.  So good things are coming.

I am trying to make these meetings worth the trip for if they are not then why bother having the meeting.  For I know many people have ideas but these ideas need to be solid and well worth it.

Hello All,

Please follow the link for directions and details & location of Allan Breed's Shoppe.  Link:http://allanbreed.com/page/location-1.  The meeting starts with coffee and donuts at 8:30 a.m. and a meeting will follow shortly after.

Just FYI.....I will be setting up meetings as fast as possible.  When a place is available or a person is available a meeting will be set.  Meetings can be every other month, back to back months, or even twice a month.  April will be the next meeting with a Sawyer located in Mass. with bonfire BBQ for lunch.  More info to come.

Thanks

Fred

Thanks to Freddy for a great meeting at Al Breed's today...and of course to Al for the carving demonstrations and discussion.  Al demonstrated several items including, techniques on carving the edge molding on the Goddard tea table top, carving curved (gooseneck) molding, carving acanthus leaves on a turned bed post.  Good attendance as well.  Thanks again for organizing it...it was well worth the trip from Burlington VT to Maine/NH.

Sapfm Members,

So this past Saturday, January 15th there was a meeting at Allan Breed's School located in Rollingsford NH.  The number of people that attended were 35 plus.  What a showing!!!!!  I would like to thank you all for attending and making it a great meeting.  I knew we could have meetings in back to back months, a meeting in January, and a meeting on the same week as Williamsburg.  I am happy for the postive energy and the quality of the meeting.

Thanks to Allan Breed for his kindness and willingness to host us. For all who attended can recieve 10% off the next class they signed up for at Allan's.  NE Chapter has a lot planned for the future.  We have a Feb. in CT, a meeting in April ( Dates are being determined as we speak), a meeting in June in ME again @ Matt Wajda's located in the same building as Allan Breed.  We have the Mid-year this year in CT and we will have something set up with Phil Lowe in the Fall.  I am going to talk to Peter Follansbee again to set something up on paper.  This meeting will have a fee but worth the money.

Well thank you for your time.
