Ronnie Young – Federal Period Cellarette

We are delighted to announce that Ronnie Young will be our guest speaker for the Spring 2017 Florida chapter meeting.  Ronnie is the recipient of the 2016 SAPFM Cartouche Award for lifetime achievement in period furniture.  The program will be a two day demonstration of the construction of a federal period cellarette that was featured in the Annual SAPFM “American Period Furniture” 2016 journal (pp. 10-17).

Cellarets were most commonly used in coastal Virginia and South Carolina to hold wine and spirits .  The design Ronnie will be showing us is based on drawings by Carlyle Lynch and features tapered legs, oval inlays, bellflowers, stringing, half-blind dovetails, and veneering.  This two-part cellarette consists of an upper box with 12 compartments to hold fifth size bottles and a stand with a cockbeaded drawer and a slide out mixing tray behind the front molding.
Ronnie will be demonstrating many of the techniques he used to build this cellarette, referring to both a fully assembled piece and unassembled components.

The meeting will be held at Mike Longeran’s shop in Christmas, FL (east of Orlando).  Doors will be open at 8:00am for a meet and greet and the program will begin at 9:00am.

This program is open to all SAPFM members.  Cost for the two day program is $50 to cover speaker’s fee.  Cash will be collected at the door Saturday morning.  We are unable to accept checks or plastic.  Please RSVP to Joe Kunzman email: [email protected] by Friday, March 10th.  Since there are no nearby restaurants, lunch will be brought in.  The cost will be $5 per day; $10 total.  Or, you may brown bag it.

*** Call for Presenters – Fall 2017 ***

Reminder, our fall chapter meeting will be held on September 23, 2017 at which time we will return to our customary format consisting of Show & Tell and several presentations by our local SAPFM-FL chapter members.  The location and agenda will be announced as we approach the date.

Typically we have 3 or 4 one-hour long presentations.  Presentations can be on any subject related to period furniture.  For instance, at our fall 2016 chapter meeting topics included: segmented veneering of a Demilune table (Mike L.), chemical coloration of wood (Gary W.), and vacuum bag veneering (David V.).

Please start thinking about topics that you would like to present at the Fall meeting.  Calls for presentations will be made at the spring meeting.  But, you are encouraged to send me an email anytime beforehand with your proposal.
