Our next meeting is planned for Jun 5, 2024 08:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada). Check your email inbox for a message from SAPFM with the link. SAPFM will email all current members in the days leading up to the meeting with a reminder.

For this meeting, our primary topic is: Rabbets, Grooves, Dados, and Rebates...What’s the difference? How are they employed? What hand tools are needed to cut one?

As an additional note, we discovered that blurred or virtual backgrounds are a problem for those presenting a tool or a technique. For those who would like to be "on screen" to share a tool or technique with the group, please plan to forego background effects.

Ron Aylor has planned our next meeting for 14 Aug, 2024. Peter Hudson will provide a virtual tour of the Joiner's Shop. Further details posted on the "Upcoming Events" section of sapfm.org.

Knowing how to sharpen chisels and plane irons and maintaining them for a lifetime’s worth of use is something all woodworkers should know. Of course, when asking ten woodworkers which sharpening method is the best, you get ten different answers! It all boils down to preference. What method works for you? So whether you use an oil stone, water stone, sandpaper, or perhaps rub your tools on the sidewalk, join SAPFM Unplugged at 8:00 PM EDT on September 11, 2024, for a round-table discussion on sharpening chisels and plane irons. And please, don't be shy!

Our next SAPFM Unplugged which will meet at 8:00 pm on October 9, 2024.

“Thomas Carlyle (1795 – 1881) a British essayist and historian once said, “Man is a tool-using animal. Without tools he is nothing, with tools he is all.” I wonder, though, how many tools does one actually need? Ron Aylor is of the mind that just a few basic hand tools are all one needs to begin making things in wood. Join us on October 9 at 8 pm for a discussion on essential hand tools.”

The meeting will begin at 8:00 pm Eastern. We will email instructions on registration for the meeting in the days prior to the meeting.

For further info on upcoming sessions, keep an eye on the "Upcoming Events" portion of the website, and the Calendar at the top of this forum. We're planning to keep these sessions running monthly through at least the end of 2024. Expect much the same in 2025, so long as participation and enthusiasm remains high!
