Just wanted  to let everyone Know about our October Meeting. It will be Sat October 8th at Monticello in Charlottesville Virginia. This will be an all day event which will start at 7:00 AM at the visitors center. We have to do this because it is busy Season for Monticello. We will have two tour groups and it will include the dome room. After the tour we will procede to the classroom for the rest of the day for lectures. Robert Self has been employed by Monticello as Conservator of Architecture and Furniture since 1994.  In addition to conservation work, he has made numerous  pieces of furniture and fixtures for dependency spaces such as the kitchen and wine cellar and also built reproductions displayed on the main floor of the house.  His first-hand experience working with both the house and the original furnishings made on the plantation has given him unique insights into the intimate relationships between the two.  His talk, entitled, ?Made at Monticello: The Furniture of the Joinery? will focus on pieces constructed in the Monticello Joinery and their makers, free and enslaved, and will also include some examples, although clearly conceived of by Thomas Jefferson, may actually have been made elsewhere. Brian Weldy from the Hayes workshop at Williamsburg will also talk about the tall writing desk that is in Jeffersons private library and its construction. He has reproduced several of the originals at Monticello. If interested please email Joe Lambert @[email protected] cost for the day which will include a boxed lunch as well as AM coffee and Juices and admission to the house will be 45.00 each person attending. Checks should be mailed to Joe Lambert 520 Willwood Dr, Earlysville Virginia 22936. Of note the dome room alone is generally 45.00, so this is a very resonable price for a full day. I hope to see many of SAPFM members there all members are welcome. We can accomodate up to 50. Make checks to Joe Lambert.
