If it's of interest to anyone within driving distance of Raleigh NC, our local paper ran a story today about the new exhibit opening at the NC Museum of History, "Behind the Veneer: Thomas Day, Master Cabinetmaker".  6000 sq ft with 78 pieces of furniture. They are also releasing a 320 pg book "Thomas Day: Master Craftsman and Free Man of Color".

"Exhaustively researched, the 320-page book is dense with historical details and gorgeous full-color photographs of more than 160 pieces of furniture and architectural woodwork that Day produced between 1835 and 1861."

Neat, i've bid before at auction on some of his pieces and naturally, i got beat like a drum. At least now i can buy the book to get a better understanding of his work, thanks for your post.

OK, i just ordered it. $26.40 @ amazon, ships May 28th, their release date.

You got me beat on the price.  Paid $40.  I just didn't have the patience.
There are some wonderful images in there.  I'm glad that I bought  the few pieces that I have, before it was published.  I'm sure that his pieces will be much sought after.

The book is also sure to prove much scholarly discussion and debate.

The exhibit will opens May 22 and will be up for a year.
