I just wanted to share my experience with a new dovetail saw. It is made by Rob Cosman. I cut some dovetails but I am certainly not an expert or proficient to the level I would like to be, so I appreciate any help I can get with my effort.
In the past I used a dovetail saw that had very fine teeth (22 tpi) because I could control how I started it. I also had a Lie-Nielsen dovetail saw. I find this new saw to be the right combination of qualities that helps me.
In my opinion, the key benefits as stated from his site:
* Super Fine 22tpi starting tip, then finish the cut with just a few strokes of the aggressive 15 tpi blade
* Extra heavy brass back provides better balance and smoother “vibration free” sawing
* Slight .002” (per side) set makes for dead straight saw cuts and smooth ready to glue surfaces right out of the box
While a good tool is no substitute for technique and practice, it can be an aid.
BTW, I am not on commission
