Well, the first semi-annual meeting of the newly formed Gateway Chapter is, as they say, history.  And despite a delayed start and a few technical difficulties, I think it's safe to say the meeting was a good beginning to what I hope becomes a growing, active and dynamic group.

There are several people who made the day possible.  First I'd like thank Boris Khechoyan for all of his help in planning the event and for his presentation on carving.  I'd also like to thank David Conradsen our very knowledgeable docent from the St. Louis Art Museum.  In addition to giving us a guided tour of the museum's period furniture collection, we were afforded the wonderful opportunity of privately viewing six pieces not on public display.  It's not everyday we get to feel the plane marks, pull the drawers and turnover a piece of 250 year old furniture.  I'd like to thank the members form the St. Louis Woodworkers Guild who joined us.  Their participation and support now and in the future will no doubt be a large part of the group's success.  I'd like to thank Cal Hobbs, who drove out from Kansas City.  Cal has agreed to host the spring meeting.  I was once told that the success of the first meeting can be best measured by how many attendees return for the second meeting.  Although, KC will be a bit of a drive for many members,   I have no doubt that Cal's considerable knowledge, resources and contacts will make the next meeting even better.  Next I'd like to thank John Fitzpatrick from the Great Lakes chapter.  Although John couldn't stay for the whole event, his advice and encouragement were much appreciated.  Finally and in some ways, most importantly, I'd like to thank David Conley from the ORV Chapter.  Without David's trust, advice, encouragement, not to mention approval as a member of SAPFM Executive Council, there never would have been a Gateway Chapter to begin with.

Thanks to all who helped and attended.  Now let's talk about next spring!

Gerald,

Nice job setting up the meeting.  You have established a high mark for the spring!

It was great to meet everyone, and the pieces that David set out for us was by far the highlight of the day.  Now all need to do a good job in keeping up the enthusiasm for KC!  Thanks, Cal

Gerald, I have to agree, I thought the meeting went quite well, it was a great day.

I also think the museum treated us really well.

I'm really looking forward to the next meeting in KC, I'm sure it'll be great as well.

Rick
