H i folks,  I am partially over getting my message erased .  Our meetings took place this summer and just this weekend.  This summer we had people over at my workshop to chew the fat.  I showed off my new big jointer,a 16" cordesman with babbit bearings.  This is a machine that works surprisingly well.  Boy, when it spins up to speed it hums like a hornet.  Another machine that I recently picked up from a collector dealer in Albany,NY by the name of Jeff Behlin delivered me a Tannewitz patternmakers lathe.  I have yet to try it out but he has tons old machines.  I can give out his number if any one wants it.  Also try old woodworking machines website and search for his name.  I showed off my skeleton of a sideboard that I am copying from pg 105 and 212 of Furniture from the Kauffman Collection.  We had the big cheese himself show up, Walt Seigle.  Hey Walt, how about those pictures!
  This weekend we demo'ed at a booth set for my townships 3oo yr celebration.  There were 3 of us.  Kudos to Rich Nimitz and Wally Root for showing up and giving great insites, conversation and showing off of skills.  We had a lot of people asking and picking up the brochures that Walt gave us to give out.  I dont think we have any left.  I got a chance to use Rich's Ray Iles mortising chisels and liked them so much I ordered 2 from the working wood website.  I think they are the outlet for these items.  We were making copies of a small period end table that you may be able to see it the photo.  We were able to do the demos on a period workbench that Adam Cherubini kindly provided for us.  I was very impressed with its size stability and usefulness even though it did not have a bench screw yet.  He also designed it so it could be easily disassembled.

I too have been a victim of the message erasing phenomenon - several times!  Since it has happened most often when I am posting longer messages, I have a sense it has to do with some kind of system/Forum timing out during the formulation of a long reply to a post - all of that website stuff that probably is not worth the time to understand.

So with that somewhat fatalistic view, I have taken to typing my longer Forum responses in Word and then cutting and pasting to the Forum.  As long as I have been going this, I have not lost a message.  I have also noted that the same "timing out" process is alive and well on one of the email servers I use - Oh well, so much for the confessions of this slow typist!

Thanks for the suggestion--I do the same thing as well.

If you are a slow typist or want to take a coffee break mid-post, copy and paste your text into a wordpad or notepad document for future reference. This forum, like others I use, will terminate or "time-out" your session if you do not post your message after a specified time. If you take more than a few minutes after opening the post window to hit the Post button, save your message before submitting. This will save you the frustration of having to re-enter it later.
