A new regional chapter of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers (SAPFM) is being formed to serve the Maryland region and surrounding areas of Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Lower Pennsylvania, Delaware and the Washington DC metro area.

If you are interested in attending the first meeting, please register by responding back to Bert Bleckwenn ( [email protected] ) for the first regional chapter meeting in the Maryland area to be held at the Woodworkers Club on Saturday, April 9th from 10:00AM to 4:00PM.  A $20 meeting/refreshment/Lunch fee will be charged on the day of the meeting when you sign in.

Pre-registration is required, so please RSVP by responding to me at [email protected] along with signing up for lunch and identifying any dietary restrictions or other special needs. There will be a fee of $10.00 to cover meeting costs along with a nominal lunch & refreshments fee of $10.00 for a total cost of $20.00 per attendee which will be collected when you sign in at the start of the meeting between 10:00-10:30AM.  Please let me know if you have dietary restrictions or prefer to go out over lunch as I will either attempt to accommodate your needs or waive the lunch fee.  However, I encourage you to stay for lunch as activities will continue to occur throughout the lunch hour.

We have an exciting agenda planned which will be highlighted by a presentation and demonstration of Carving the Cabriole Leg for a Low Bedstead by Kaare Loftheim.  Kaare Loftheim is the Journeyman Cabinetmaker in the Hays Cabinetmaking Shop at Colonial Williamsburg and, as such is a very accomplished cabinetmaker and demonstrator.  You will get to see first hand and up close the process for roughing out and carving the intricate components of the Cabriole leg along with Kaare's usual commentary and wit while working on the leg.

Besides a business meeting to formalize a new regional SAPFM chapter, the agenda will include a lot of time for introductions, socializing, a member Tool Exchange and a member Show & Tell since this is our first meeting and we need to get to know each other.

AGENDA
  • Sign In, Log your Show & Tell and Tool Exchange items
  • Welcome, Agenda Review
  • Member and Guest Introductions
  • Chapter Formation
  • Extended Lunch, Socialization, Show & Tell, Tool Exchange

Further details will be provided to those who register.

Come join me for an exciting day.

I'll be there Bert. Thanks for getting this thing going and great job getting Kaare there to demonstrate at the inaugural meeting. He's worth the price of admission.

Cheers,

Jamie Bacon
